Celebrating the life of
Margaret Love Covington
December 19, 1918 - August 09, 2010
SAVANNAH – Mrs. Margaret Love Covington, 91 years old, died Monday, August 9, 2010 under the warm care of Hospice Savannah and surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Covington was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, James Clyde Covington.
Mrs. Covington was born in Stockbridge, Georgia and moved to Savannah with her husband in the 1940's. She worked at Sears, Diana Shops and then Belk's at Crossroads for over 30 years until she was forced to retire at the age of 80 when Belk's closed its doors on Victory Drive. Many people will remember Mrs. Covington as the lady with the friendly smile and warm heart who worked in accessories at Belk's. She never met a stranger and was once nominated by her long time friend, Zelma Nasworthy, for the "Good Neighbor Award" through the Savannah News Press. The article described Mrs. Covington as a "real Christian lady with lots of love for everyone she comes across".
Mrs. Covington was a faithful church member. She was a charter member of Jasper Springs Baptist Church and a member of Morningside Baptist Church since 1950. She was very active in the church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, member of the ladies circle, church council and her personal mission was visiting with the sick in the nursing homes. She continued her ministry even after her health began to decline and had many "prayer warriors" she spoke to often by phone. Mrs. Covington especially enjoyed working in her yard, taking long walks, reading, and being with her grandchildren. She was fondly known by all as "Mema".
Mrs. Covington is survived by her three sons, J. Thomas Brenda Covington of Newnan, GA, Captain Mark C. Becky Covington of Savannah, GA, and Richard Craig Frances Covington of Augusta, GA. She leaves eight grandchildren, Veronica Rumble Bill of Lawrenceville, GA, Cindy Jerry Phillips of Wrightsville, GA, Laura Chris Miller of Savannah, GA, Ellie Love Covington of Savannah, GA, Brian Covington of Savannah, GA, Russell Covington of Atlanta, GA, Andrew J. Covington of Savannah, GA and Brandon Covington of Savannah, GA. She also leaves five great-grandchildren, Glenn Tanner, Richard Rumble, Jamie Miller, Rebekah Miller, and Daniel Miller and one great-great grandchild, Joshua Tanner and a host of other family, friends and neighbors.

Words fall short of expressing my sorrow. I believe we never lose the people we love, because they live the rest of our lives with us in our heart. As saddened as I am, I am so grateful for all the richness Memaw brought into my life. Memaw will be truly missed.
